The Gokai – The Five Reiki Precepts can be and has been translated into many different, but similar, forms. Very often it is initially taught full of negatives ... an example as follows
Just for today, DO NOT ANGER. Just for today, DO NOT WORRY.
... now really ... the sentence ends with an order and the last words stuck in the head [in MY head] are anger and worry.
I am a big supporter and instigator of positive language and saying and focusing on what you want rather than focusing on what you don't ...
So, after searching through many translations, I found this one that I really liked:
Just for today, do not anger.
Just for today, do not worry.
Value your life and make the effort necessary to actualise your life's purpose.
Be kind.
I like this next one too ... but I still prefer a more positive language. [note ... anger and worry remain as the final stroke of the sentences]I also like this line from yet another translation/phrasing ...
WITH GRATITUDE, I WILL LIVE MY LIFE HONESTLY AND BE KIND TO ALL LIVING THINGS.
BUT... I switched it up to this ...
Just for today, I will be calm.
Just for today, I will be reassured.
With gratitude,I will value my life and make the effort necessary to actualise my life's purpose.
Just for today, I will be kind.
"i will be reassured" could be spoken as having faith as well ... being reassured that life/things are progressing as they are meant to. Trusting The Big Wow. {Divine. Universe. God...] To me ... I feel arms hugging my shoulders from behind ... "You can/will do this. I need you HERE today ...now." Both which have actually happened, so it's my deep and visceral connection to the precepts.
I think if I were to Master and teach ... I would encourage my students to read and research as many Reiki precept translations as possible to find the one that best suits their needs ... that best resonates in their body, spirit, and mind.
Reiki is all about resonance and finding the right chord that leads one toward balance and health. Since everyday begins saying these precepts, I WILL start my day, in the practice of Reiki, with this positive declaration of intent.
